PORTUGAL



In Portugal, the climate varies significantly from region to region, as influenced by the height, latitude and proximity to the sea, which provides mild winters.

  

In areas of Porto and Norte de Portugal Centro de Portugal and, especially in areas closest to Spain, the winters are colder, despite the moderate temperatures than the rest of Europe. Summers are hot and dry, especially in inland areas, while along the coast the heat is moderated by the presence of the sea.

  

Portugal is among the European countries most characteristic and peculiar history and culture, always charming in the eyes of visitors to discover a country both for its history than for its natural landscape. The current Portugal corresponds to the ancient Roman province of Lusitania. It is the westernmost state of Europe, after Iceland.

Its territory stretches for 600 km 150/200 km in length and the width: findings from the plateau down to the Spanish Atlantic coast. Surrounded only by Spain (north Galicia, Castile and Leon, Extremadura and Andalusia in the east) and overlooking the Atlantic Ocean approximately 830 km of coastline to the south and west.

  

In past centuries, Portugal was able to build a vast colonial empire, thanks to the special geographical and facilitated the acquisition of a large marine experience. The empire dissolved only slightly less than thirty years ago, saw possessions in all continents.

To date, still in his possession the two archipelagos of Azores and Madeira, which are part of the national territory as autonomous regions. Portugal is a member of the European Union, NATO, Council of Europe, OECD and Western European Union.
